Our Scorecard

We want to transform how, and how well, people who live in Kalamazoo County — from infants to senior citizens — are prepared for lifelong success. To help us measure our progress and focus our energies, we’ve developed a scorecard that looks at the key stages from cradle to career.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS

Children who are academically, physically and socially ready for pre-K and kindergarten are more likely to experience future school success.

K-3 EDUCATION

Students whose reading and math skills are at or above grade level by third grade are more likely to continue performing above grade level than those whose are not.

4-6 EDUCATION

Those performing at or above grade level in reading and math when they get to middle school are more likely to be ready for high school and graduate on time.

7-12 EDUCATION

Students who graduate from high school on time are more likely to earn a college degree or other certification than those who don’t graduate on time.

COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS

Students who are prepared for success in higher education are more likely to attend their school of choice and succeed there without needing developmental coursework.

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION

Research shows that communities are socially and economically stronger when more community members hold a degree or other certification.

ADULT LEARNING

When adults have the skills they need to be successful at work, at home and in the community, it makes the community stronger and individuals more self-sufficient.
